Bangladesh won the three-match ODI series against Pakistan 2-1.

Pakistan suffered a humiliating ODI series defeat to Bangladesh on March 15, losing the third and final match of the three-match series at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur.

Pakistan captain Shaheen Afridi won the toss and chose to bowl first. Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan hammered a sublime century, scoring 107 with 6 fours and 7 sixes to his name. He was well supported by Saif Hassan, who made 36 runs and added 105 runs for the first wicket.

Najmul Hossain Shanto made 27 runs, while Litton Das made 41 runs. Bangladesh received a huge boost, as Towhid Hridoy hammered 48* in 44 balls, as the Tigers finished on 290/5 in 50 overs. For Pakistan, Haris Rauf was the best bowler with three wickets for 52 runs in 10 overs.

In response, Pakistan faltered right from the start. Sahibzada Farhan, Maaz Sadaqat, and Mohammad Rizwan all fell for single-digit scores. Ghazi Ghori made 39 runs, Abdul Samad made 34 runs, and Saad Masood made 38 runs.

However, it was Salman Ali Agha, who kept Pakistan in the game, with a brilliant 106 with 9 fours and 4 sixes. Shaheen Afridi made 37 runs, but Pakistan could only muster 279 runs as Bangladesh won by 11 runs and pocketed the series 2-1.

Pakistan complained to the match referee about the DRS review

The match ended in controversy in the last over, as the on-field umpire Kumar Dharmasena’s apparent protocol violation when he allowed a Bangladesh review on the penultimate ball.

The incident happened when Pakistan needed 12 runs off two balls in the last over while chasing 291 and nine down.

With skipper Shaheen Afridi on strike, Rishad Hossain fired one down the leg side, but Dharmasena ruled it a wide. Bangladesh appealed for an LBW, so the decision had to be forwarded upstairs, even though they were unable to examine the wide call directly.

The wide was reversed because replays revealed a spike on the UltraEdge when the ball was close to the bat. Bangladesh virtually won the game despite losing the review. It should be mentioned that the broadcast did not include a timer.

Pakistan’s objection was likely motivated by Bangladesh’s ability to view the big-screen replay and make a decision thanks to the initial wide call; otherwise, the decision should have been made within the allotted time.

After the match, Pakistan have lodged a complaint with the Match Referee, Neeyamur Rashid, about the DRS call allowed by the umpire.

“The PAK team management believes Bangladesh took the review after a replay of the delivery flashed up on the big screen, and as a result came up (to the referee) after the game and informed (him) about their observation. Pakistan felt Bangladesh were allowed to review outside the maximum 15 seconds (window) within which such a decision must be made,” Cricbuzz report stated.

Cricbuzz also reported that Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson met Rashid post-match to register the complaint.
