Pakistan make one change in their Asia Cup 2023 squad, Tayyab Tahir replaced

Pakistan have made one change in their Asia Cup 2023 squad.
Pakistan have already announced their squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. Babar Azam led side will open the tournament against Nepal at Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan. With just three days to go until the tournament, Pakistan have announced a major change in their squad. Following a commanding 3-0 victory against Afghanistan, Pakistan have named Saud Shakeel to their 17-member squad for the Asia Cup. Right-handed batter Tayyab Tahir, who was formerly a member of the team, has been demoted to reserve status. Despite participating in the final ODI against Afghanistan, Saud Shakeel failed to produce a significant score.
Shakeel in, Tahir as reserves
Left-handed middle-order batter scored only nine runs in eight balls in his ODI return game. Unfortunately, he had to walk back to the dressing room earlier than expected due to a run-out. After making his debut in the 50-overs format in 2021 against Sri Lanka, Shakeel has played only six ODI games. Shakeel’s numbers in this format don’t look encouraging, but his good work in the red-ball format prompted selectors to make this change. Tayyab Tahir is yet to make his ODI debut for Pakistan and has played only three T20I games for his national side. He has been shifted to reserve status.
Babar, Naseem, Imam to travel to Lahore
Pakistan squad will return to Pakistan on Sunday morning and rest for the day after ending the Afghanistan series in Sri Lanka.. A press release from PCB stated that “The team management has provided relaxation to the players who participated in the Lanka Premier League. Babar Azam, Imam-ul-Haq, and Naseem Shah will travel to Lahore on Sunday and join the side on Monday morning. The players will start training from Tuesday from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM at Multan Cricket Stadium.” Pakistan played a three-match ODI series against Afghanistan in Sri Lanka.
On August 30 at Multan, Pakistan will play their opening Asia Cup 2023 match against Nepal. Along with India, they are part of group A. They will return to Sri Lanka after this game. The crucial match between India and Pakistan is scheduled to take place at Pallekele Cricket Stadium in Kandy on September 2. Both Sri Lanka and Pakistan will compete in the Asia Cup as hosts. Pakistan will host four games in the tournament, one in Multan and three in Lahore. Most games of the tournament will be played in Sri Lanka, which will host nine of them in Kandy and Colombo.
