Shan Masood will be leading Pakistan in the upcoming home test series against Bangladesh.

Pakistan are all set to host Bangladesh for a two-match PAK vs BAN test series, starting on August 21. The first game will take place at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium and the second match will be held at the National Stadium, Karachi.

Shan Masood will be leading Pakistan for the first time at home. He made his debut as Test captain in the three-match Test series in Australia, which Pakistan lost 3-0. So, the captain will hope to do well in the upcoming test season. Pakistan are scheduled to play test series against Bangladesh, England, South Africa and West Indies in the coming months.

Shan Masood highlights Pakistan’s depth in the pace department

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced a strong squad for the Bangladesh Test series. Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah will lead the pace attack. Pakistan have picked a total of six pacers, which indicates that the pitches are likely to favour the pacers.

Shan Masood highlighted this in a discussion with Bazid Khan on the latter’s podcast. The Pakistani captain is confident that all of his six pacers are good enough to make their first-choice XI. Masood also spoke about the workload management of the speedsters.

He said, “The exciting part is that in our current squad, we’ve got six exciting fast bowlers. All six of them can make a claim for the playing XI, and all six offer something different. Wherever someone is required, and if it allows us to rest one of our premier bowlers, I think we’ll be in good stead, and it will give experience to the ones who play.”

“We’re equally confident that the ones who step in—the new guys like Khurram Shahzad, Mir Hamza, Muhammad Ali, and even Aamer Jamal to an extent — when they step in, whether Shaheen or Naseem Shah or another isn’t available, they all offer something that can win Pakistan games and pick those 20 crucial wickets,” he added.

Pakistan will be playing nine test matches in the next 7-8 months. They are currently fifth on the World Test Championship 2023-25 table with 36.66 PCT. Seven out of their nine tests will be played at home, so Shan Masood and his men can fancy their chances of reaching the WTC final if they can do well at home.
