Gerald Coetzee has recovered from a left-hamstring injury.
Fast bowler Gerald Coetzee is set to return to action with the upcoming tri-series in Pakistan, which also involves New Zealand, as he’s been named in South Africa’s squad for their first match of the series against the Kiwis.
The tri-series will kick off on February 8 with Pakistan taking on New Zealand in Lahore. The second match will be between New Zealand and South Africa, also in Lahore at the Gaddafi Stadium.
Coetzee’s SA20 2025 stint was restricted to just one game due to a left hamstring injury. South Africa are already struggling with injuries to several pacers and pace-bowling all-rounders, including Anrich Nortje. They would be hoping that Coetzee gets into good form and rhythm in the tri-series ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
South Africa name six uncapped players in their squad to face New Zealand
Head coach Rob Walter has named a 12-man Protea squad for their first match of the tri-series against New Zealand, and it includes six uncapped players: Matthew Breetzke, Meeka-eel Prince, Gideon Peters, Eathan Bosch, Senuran Muthusamy and Mihlali Mpongwana.
More players are expected to be added to South Africa’s squad following the SA20 Eliminator between Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Joburg Super Kings on February 5.
The CSA confirmed that senior players Keshav Maharaj and Heinrich Klaasen would be available for South Africa’s second ODI of the tri-series, which will be against Pakistan on February 12.
Of South Africa’s squad for the Champions Trophy, Marco Jansen, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, Tristan Stubbs, and Rassie van der Dussen will not feature in the tri-series.
