Pakistan slipped down to third position in the ICC ODI team rankings after failing to whitewash New Zealand.

Pakistan scripted history after winning the 4th ODI game against New Zealand at National Stadium in Karachi. They became the world number one ODI side for the first time in their history after taking a 4-0 lead in the 5-match ODI series. 48 hours later, Pakistan lost the pole position after losing the final ODI against NZ. New Zealand defeated Pakistan in the final ODI by 47 runs. Australia are at the top once again on the ICC ODI team rankings with 113 rating points. Pakistan dropped back to 3rd place with 112 rating points. India are 2nd in the rankings with 113 rating points. Pakistan are currently 4th in the T20I team rankings and 6th in the ICC test team rankings.

After losing the first 4 ODIs, New Zealand defeated Pakistan by 47 runs. Pakistani captain Babar Azam had a rare failure in the ODI format. Batting first, New Zealand gave Pakistan 300 runs to chase. Will Young (87) and Tom Latham's (59) innings provided NZ with a challenging score of 299 in Karachi. New Zealand, while defending their target had a brilliant start with the ball. Going strong in the series, Babar Azam was out after adding just one run to the scorecard. Pakistan were 4 down in 66 while chasing 300 runs. Only Iftikhar Ahmed could challenge NZ bowlers with his 94 runs. Apart from Agha Salman (57), he was unable to find support from the other end. Pakistan bundled out on 252 runs. Henry Shipley and Rachin Ravindra picked up 3 wickets.

India are currently top of the ranking in ICC Test and T20I team rankings. Pakistan had a brilliant series with New Zealand. They were dominating NZ in the first four games of the ODI series. Before this, Pakistan and New Zealand both shared the T20I series 2-2. Most of the big New Zealand cricket names were taking part in the Indian Premier League, skipping the Pakistan tour. Trent Boult, Mitchell Santner, Michael Bracewell, and Glenn Phillips are taking part in the IPL, while Kane Williamson was ruled out from the IPL due to an injury.
