India's tour of South Africa 2024
Parthiv Patel slams Rahul Dravid's decision on India's designated wicket-keeper for South Africa series

Parthiv Patel slams Rahul Dravid’s decision for South Africa series.
KL Rahul has been doing a magnificent job as wicket-keeper in the white-ball format. Rahul took the responsibility as keeper exceptionally well in the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and in Asia Cup 2023. Indian head coach Rahul Dravid has decided to give the wicket-keeping responsibility to KL Rahul in upcoming 2-match test series against South Africa.
Indian team management called-in KS Bharat as replacement of Ishan Kishan who opted out of the tour mid-way. It was reported that Ishan Kishan opted out due to ‘mental fatigue’ as he was not getting regular chances in red-ball game. Former Indian wicket-keeper Parthiv Patel has slammed Rahul Dravid’s decision to opt for KL Rahul as keeper ahead of KS Bharat or Ishan Kishan.

Parthiv Patel batted for someone who was keeping in Indian domestic setup and especially in Ranji Trophy over KL Rahul. Parthiv Patel tweeted, “India’s test match wicketkeeper should be someone who is keeping regularly in Ranji trophy or first class cricket… In my honest opinion.” KS Bharat and Ishan Kishan are two specialist wicket-keeper option in the current setup.
Rahul Dravid revealed on Sunday that KL Rahul is confident of taking up the responsibility and he is doing exceptional in the keeping department. Dravid added, “Rahul is very confident about giving it a go. We understand that he hasn’t done that quite often, but he has done it in fifty overs, and even that is tough… He has done a lot of keeping in the past five-six months. One of the things here is that there is more pace bowling than spin, which will ease him into the role.”
KL Rahul has been a magnificent wicket-keeper in the white-ball cricket and helped India in several LBW and DRS calls. Rahul is yet to make his debut as keeper in the red-ball format and upcoming South Africa series will be a tough series for him. Indian captain Rohit Sharma looks confident about team India’s upcoming challenge against South Africa.
