SRH bought Pat Cummins for a whopping amount of Rs 20.5 crore in the IPL 2024 mini-auction.
ODI World Cup 2023-winning captain Pat Cummins is all set to take the leadership role in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). According to reports, Pat Cummins, the star Australian pacer acquired for a record-breaking sum in the IPL 2024 auction, is the frontrunner to replace Aiden Markram as captain.
In the inaugural season of the SA20 league, Aiden Markram led Sunrisers Eastern Cape to victory and after this he was named as SRH’s skipper for IPL 2023. However Markram had a horrible season as a skipper, where his Hyderabad franchise failed to reach the IPL playoffs.
The SRH team finished last, winning only four out of 14 matches in IPL 2023. While Markram’s batting form also suffered under the pressure of captaincy. Many questions were also raised about his leadership abilities.
Cummins, on the other hand, brings a lot of experience and leadership qualities to the table. He recently led Australia to victory in both the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup in 2023. His aggressive bowling and handy batting skills make him a valuable all-rounder.
Pat Cummins likely to become SRH captain in IPL 2024
The Australian pacer Pat Cummins, who was bought for a whopping price of Rs 20.5 crore in the IPL 2024 mini-auction, which was held in December 2033 in Dubai, is expected to lead his new IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad, replacing current SRH skipper Aiden Markram.
According to a report by Cricbuzz, SRH will announce Pat Cummins as their captain for the IPL 2024 season. The change will come due to SRH’s poor performance in the last two seasons.
While there’s strong speculation about Cummins taking the reins, the official announcement regarding the captaincy role is yet to be made by the SRH management.
SRH bowling coach Dale Steyn to miss IPL 2024 season
Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad will be without the services of their bowling coach Dale Steyn for the upcoming IPL 2024. As per Cricbuzz, the South African legend will take a break from IPL 2024 and return next year. The Hyderabad-based franchise will soon announce his replacement.
Sunrisers Hyderabad will kickoff their IPL 2024 campaign against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens on March 23. SRH will play their first home game against five-time champions Mumbai Indians on March 27.
