Pat Cummins missed the first test of the Ashes 2025-26

Australian Cricket Team captain Pat Cummins has provided an update on his injury and recovery ahead of second test of the Ashes 2025-26 against England Cricket Team. He said that he is on track and is eager to play the Brisbane test, provided he ticks all the boxes.

In what was a significant blow, Australia missed the services of captain Pat Cummins in the Ashes 2025-26 opener at Perth, which is currently underway at Perth’s Optus Stadium. The pacer suffered a back injury during the test series against the West Indies earlier this year and has been out of action since then.

Pat Cummins since the last few weeks has increased his workload and has been tirelessly bowling in the nets. He is targeting the second test at Gabba in Brisbane, but so far there isn’t no clarity if he will be back in the XI for the second test or not.

I’ve been pulling up well and probably surprised myself if anything – Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins, however, believes that he is on the track and is way better than what he was last month.  He said that he will do more bowling this week and then will have two days off. As quoted by the Western Australian, he said:

“I’m probably on track, if not probably better than I would have thought a month or so ago,” Cummins told Seven.

“A lot can go wrong when you go from nothing to trying to build up. Fortunately, so far, everything has felt great. I’ve been pulling up well and probably surprised myself if anything. I will do a bit more work this week, bowling and having a couple of days off. All going well so far.”

Pat Cummins revealed that he has been bowling ten overs in a day and then letting his body recover. He concluded by saying that he will have two more sessions before the second test and only after that, he will take a call.

“I’ve been bowling up to ten overs and then have two full rest days, let the bone and body recover and then go again,” he said. “Tick that box. You move on to the next session. It’s been really good. We will see. Obviously, Brisbane is two weeks away. A few more sessions and we’ll see if there is a chance.”

The first test of Ashes 2025-26 saw Australia dominating with the ball on the day one. On the back of Mitchell Starc’s seven-fer, the hosts ended England’s innings on 172. Harry Brook was the lone warrior for his team with a fifty.
