Pat Cummins was Australia’s leading wicket-taker in the BGT 2024-25.

In a great news for Australia and Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), their regular captain Pat Cummins has resumed bowling ahead of the IPL 2025 and ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final.

He was left out of Australia squad for the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025 after suffering an ankle injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25, where he finished as Australia’s highest wicket-taker with 25 wickets.

Cummins had a memorable campaign in IPL 2024, where he led SRH to the tournament final. The 31-year-old has now shared his thoughts on his recovery and return to competitive cricket.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Cummins shared that his ankle recovery is progressing well. He expressed that he is planning to return for IPL 2025, where he will lead Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Cummins said, “The ankle is all going strong, [have been] able to give it a good rest and then been building up slowly, which you don’t get to do when you play lots of cricket.

It’s feeling as strong as it has for a fair while. Should be fine [for the IPL], that’s the plan. So have a few weeks of bowling, building back up and then hopefully don’t have to worry about it for a while.

The Australian captain revealed that he opted against ankle surgery, choosing instead to focus on extensive rehab. He also highlighted that prioritizing recovery and occasionally skipping a tour can ultimately help in playing more games throughout the year.

He added, “It’s something that we’ve opted never to have surgery on or intervene too much, just a lot to rehab. Having this break meant that I could get a couple of cortisones and really rehab it well the last couple of weeks.

Sometimes by missing the odd tour, you actually end up playing more cricket for the whole year.
