Pat Cummins suffered back injury during the West Indies series.

The Australian Cricket Team has suffered a massive blow ahead of the home cricket season. As per the reports in the Sydney Morning Herald, it is learned that the Pat Cummins will be missing the away T20I series against New Zealand and the ODI series against the Indian Cricket Team in October.

Pat Cummins, who suffered a back injury during the West Indies series, is still recovering from the injury. He recently underwent scans, and the results didn’t come out well, making him doubtful for the series against New Zealand and India.

Australia are all set to tour New Zealand for the three-match series, and after that, they will be hosting India in three ODIs and five T20Is. But Cummins’ availability seems to be under a cloud and he might even miss the Sheffield Shield game for New South Wales.

The report in the Sydney Morning Herald said: “Depending on the seriousness of Cummins’ back trouble, he may miss all the white ball games that precede the first Ashes Test in Perth in late November and could also need to avoid playing a Sheffield Shield game for New South Wales. As it is, he will be missing from the Twenty20 squad that will be named on Tuesday to tour New Zealand.”

“There may be some concern among Australia’s selectors and medical staff about the prospect of Cummins pulling up sore after a tour in which he bowled relatively few overs, particularly during the West Indies leg on a trio of lively pitches,” the report added

The T20I series against New Zealand will be played from 1st October to 10th October, while the ODIs against India will begin on 19th October. In the absence of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Marsh is expected to lead the team as he did against South Africa.

This could come as a big blow for Australia as the Ashes is also around the corner. The reports claimed that Cricket Australia and selectors are unlikely to rush Pat Cummins, and there are chances that he might miss the first few games of the series.
