Pat Cummins said he wants to stay fit ahead of the Australian cricket summer.

The Australian cricket team test and ODI captain Pat Cummins has taken a two-month long break ahead of the high-voltage Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 against the Indian cricket team.

The upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy will be played from November 22, 2024, to January 7, 2025. For the first time since 1991-92, Australia and India will compete in a test series consisting of five games.

Bowling non-stop since 18 months: Pat Cummins

Ahead of the long five-match test series against India, Cummins has decided to take a rest for two months as he has been playing consistently for the past year and a half. Cummins took this crucial decision because he wants to stay fresh and let his body recover for the crucial test series against India which is part of the World Test Championship.

“Everyone that comes back after a break is a little bit fresher, you never regret it. I’ve basically been bowling non-stop since the World Test Championship final, nearly 18 months ago. This gives me a good seven or eight weeks completely off bowling so the body can recover, then you start building up again for the summer. It means you can hopefully bowl for a little bit longer, maintain pace is a bit easier, make you less susceptible to injuries,” Cummins was quoted as saying by Fox Sports.

Cummins has played 36 international matches since 2023. This included leading Australia to the WTC 2023 and the World Cup 2023 titles. Australia retained the Ashes in England under Cummins.

The speedster also played the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 and captained Sunrisers Hyderabad to the runners-up position. The 31-year-old Cummins featured in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in June. The Aussies failed to reach the semi-final of the tournament but Cummins starred with the ball by taking two hat-tricks.
