Looking back at performances of India in last five U19 ODI World Cups

India have reached the finals of the previous five U19 World Cups.

India‘s Under-19 cricket team has established itself as the most successful side in the history of the ICC U19 ODI World Cup, clinching a record five titles overall. In the last five editions from 2016 to 2024, the team reached the final every time, securing two championships while finishing as runners-up in three.

This consistent excellence underscores India’s robust youth development system, producing stars like Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, and Yashasvi Jaiswal who have gone on to shine at the senior level.

As the team prepares for future challenges, let’s revisit each campaign, highlighting key performances, stats, and defining moments.

Captained by Ishan Kishan, India finished as runners-up with an overall record of 6 matches played with 5 wins, and 1 loss. They topped Group D unbeaten, defeating Ireland by 79 runs, New Zealand by 120 runs and Nepal by 7 wickets, which saw Rishabh Pant hammer 78 off 24 balls, one of the fastest U19 fifties.

In the quarter-final, they crushed Namibia by 197 runs with Pant scoring another 111. The semi-final witnessed another massive 97-run win over Sri Lanka. However, in the final, India were bowled out for just 145, and West Indies eventually chased it down with 5 wickets to spare.

Sarfaraz Khan set the all-time U19 World Cup record for most fifties in a single tournament in 2016. India’s 197-run victory over Namibia in the quarter-final is one of the highest margins in a knockout match for India.
