List of all players who will miss T20 World Cup 2026 due to injuries

The T20 World Cup 2026 will start on 7th February, and the final will be played on 8th March.

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is the premier tournament in T20 cricket. With many leagues now investing heavily in the format, viewership of the shorter format has increased significantly, and the new era of fearless cricket has completely changed the game.

The importance of the T20 World Cup has grown massively over the years, and every team and every player wants to give their best to earn the title of the world’s top T20 cricketing nation.

Teams aim to enter the tournament with their best players in peak fitness to maximise their chances of winning the trophy. However, this is not always possible, as many players go through injuries or other challenges.

The T20 World Cup 2026, starting on 7th February, will be played in India and Sri Lanka, with 20 teams participating. Let’s take a look at the players who have already been ruled out of the tournament due to injury.

All the players ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2026 due to injuries

The Afghan fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq, who has played a pivotal role in many of Afghanistan’s memorable victories in recent ICC tournaments, has been ruled out of the upcoming T20 World Cup. According to a statement from the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), medical assessments confirmed that Naveen has sustained a stress fracture in his right shoulder. To address the injury, he is scheduled to travel to the United Kingdom for surgery. The ACB has announced Zia-ur-Rahman Sharifi as his replacement for the World Cup.

2. Adam Milne

New Zealand pace bowler Adam Milne suffered an injury while bowling in the SA20 for Sunrisers Eastern Cape. He picked up a hamstring injury, following which New Zealand Cricket announced that he will not be able to take part in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026. With Milne ruled out, New Zealand Cricket named Kyle Jamieson as his replacement. Jamieson, who is currently featuring in the T20 series against India, brings a different dimension to the attack with his extra bounce, height, and ability to contribute with the bat.

3. Donovan Ferreira

Donovan Ferreira, who was in sensational form during the SA20, suffered an injury to his left clavicle and has been ruled out of South Africa’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2026. The injury occurred during the latter stages of the tournament and required medical evaluation, which ultimately forced him out of the global event.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) officially confirmed his unavailability and announced Tristan Stubbs as his replacement. Ferreira’s absence will be a setback for the Proteas, given his recent performances, but the management will hope Stubbs can make a strong impact on the big stage.

4. Tony de Zorzi

Tony de Zorzi was part of South Africa’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2026 but suffered a tear in his right hamstring during South Africa’s tour of India last year. He did not progress as expected in his recovery and was later ruled out of the tournament by Cricket South Africa (CSA).

Ryan Rickelton has been named as his replacement for the T20 World Cup 2026, having been in excellent form in the ongoing SA20 league. His consistency at the top of the order and ability to score quickly make him a like-for-like replacement for de Zorzi.

Which two players made their way into the South African team as injury replacements?

Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs have been named as injury replacements for Tony de Zorzi and Donovan Ferreira in the South African team for the T20 World Cup 2026.

When will T20 World Cup 2026 begin?

The ICC T20 World Cup 2026 will begin on February 7.
