IPL 2025: 3 players who can replace Gerald Coetzee in GT squad if he gets ruled out of the season
Gujarat Titans bought Gerald Coetzee for INR 2.4 crores at the IPL 2025 mega auction.
South African speedster Gerald Coetzee suffered a groin injury during the first test against Sri Lanka in Durban. This injury has ruled him out of the remainder of the test series against Sri Lanka and the upcoming all-format series against Pakistan.
This development regarding the fast bowler will raise concerns in the Gujarat Titans (GT) camp as they had acquired Coetzee for INR 2.4 crores at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction.
Considering the uncertainty around Coetzee’s participation in the competition next year, the Titans might need to explore the pool of unsold players to find a suitable replacement. In this article, we will take a look at three players who can replace Coetzee in the GT squad for IPL 2025.
Three players who can replace Gerald Coetzee in the GT squad if he gets ruled out of IPL 2025:
1. Daniel Sams (AUS)
Australian all-rounder Daniel Sams could be an excellent replacement for Coetzee in the GT squad. Sams carries valuable experience of playing different T20 leagues across the globe. His potential arrival will add the left-arm variation to the GT pace attack that will be headed by Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada.
In addition to his bowling abilities, Sams is also a handy lower-order power-hitter who can add valuable runs towards the end of the innings.
2. Alzarri Joseph (WI)
One of the most expensive players of last season, Alzarri Joseph is another strong candidate to replace Coetzee in the GT squad. Alzarri’s bowling style is similar to Coetzee as the Caribbean thrives on back-of-the-length deliveries.
In case of his potential arrival, the pitch of Ahmedabad that has a bit of extra pace and bounce will assist the tall fast bowler. Joseph was surprisingly unsold at the mega auction, but could find a way back into the league as a replacement player.
3. Mustafizur Rahman (BAN)
Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman is one of the most experienced bowlers in T20 cricket. Known for his slower ball variations, his potential addition can help GT address their death bowling woes from last season.
Mustafizur has represented multiple teams in the IPL. He has snared 61 wickets in 57 games in the league. Mustafizur played a vital role in Sunrisers Hyderabad’s IPL 2016 title-winning campaign. Unfortunately, he remained unsold at this year’s mega auction.
