The Indian Premier League 2026 season is nearing its final stage. Fans are excited as the tournament moves towards the playoffs. This season has been full of close matches and big performances. Teams have fought hard in the league stage to secure a top-four finish.
Earlier, there was uncertainty about the final venue. The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru was set to host the final. However, issues related to ticket demands and local requirements created doubts. This led to discussions between officials and authorities.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India has now made things clear. It has officially announced the playoffs schedule, and the final venue has also been confirmed. This has finally brought clarity for the teams and fans ahead of the knockout stage.
BCCI shifts final from Bengaluru, announces playoffs venues
The BCCI released a full schedule for the IPL 2026 playoffs. The knockout matches will be played across three venues. This decision was made for logistical and operational reasons.
Qualifier 1 will take place on May 26 at the HPCA Stadium. This match will be played between the top two teams. The winner will go directly to the final.
The Eliminator will be held on May 27 at the New International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh. The third and fourth-placed teams will face each other. The same venue will also host Qualifier 2 on May 29. This match will decide the second finalist.
The final will now be played on May 31 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. It is the world’s largest cricket stadium and will host the grand finale.
The BCCI also explained the reason for shifting the final. The statement said, “Bengaluru was originally designated to host the Final. However, owing to certain requirements from the local association and authorities that were beyond the scope of BCCI’s established guidelines and protocols, the venue has been shifted and reassigned”.
Teams can now prepare for the final phase of the tournament. Currently, Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans are in contention to qualify for the IPL 2026 playoffs.
