Rain washed out the IND vs PAK Asia Cup 2023 Group A at Pallekele.

Rain has been the biggest roadblock in the India vs Pakistan clash at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy. The Indian team posted 266 runs on the board as wicket-keeper Ishan Kishan and all-rounder Hardik Pandya added 138 runs for 5th wicket. Team India's top order struggled against Pakistan's pace bowlers. Everyone was eagerly awaiting the Pakistani chase, while the rain continued to pour down and the game ended without a result.

IND vs PAK, Asia Cup 2023, Group A Match Washed Out

After the washout, both teams will share one point each, and Pakistan will go to the top of Group A with three points in their account. On the other hand, India will be 2nd with only one point after their opening game ended as a complete washout. India will be playing Nepal in their second league game at Pallekele Stadium in Kandy.

With Nepal being an inexperienced side, India are set to enter the Super 4 round as well. Only a big upset can prevent the Asia Cup debacle, but that looks highly unlikely. Pakistan have a dominating net run rate after their huge 238-run victory against Nepal. This was Pakistan’s final league game in Group A. The Super 4 round will begin on September 6, and most of the games will be played at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Indian top-order struggle against Pakistan bowlers

The Indian top-order had a poor run against Pakistan pacers in the high-voltage clash on Saturday. Shaheen Afrido rattled Indian captain Rohit Sharma (11) and Virat Kohli (4) after the first rain break and put India a little behind. After a few overs, Haris Rauf also struck twice and picked up Shubman Gill (10) and Shreyas Iyer (14) cheaply. After this, Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya stitched together a game-changing partnership of 138 runs.

Ishan Kishan scored 82 runs in 81 balls, while all-rounder Hardik Pandya contributed 87 runs in 90 balls to India’s score of 266. Team India got bundled out as no other batter could stay for long in the Indian innings. Shaheen Afridi picked up four, and Haris Rauf and Naseem both picked up three wickets each in the first innings.
