Finally, after two poor games, the three-time finalist Delhi Capitals Women have recorded a win in the WPL 2026. They locked horns with UP Warriorz on Wednesday at Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, and they recorded a one-sided victory.
It started with Jemimah Rodrigues winning the toss and electing to bowl first. Marizanne Kapp provided them the breakthrough in the very first over and dismissed Kiran Navgire for a three-ball duck. But they had two good partnerships after that, and captain Meg Lanning scored 54 off 38 balls.
Phoebe Litchfield (27 off 20) played a good hand, and Harleen Deol scored an unbeaten 47 off 36 balls to take UPW-W to 154/8 in the first inning. They were 132/2 in 15.2 overs and scored only 22 runs in the last 28 balls and lost six wickets.
Kapp (2/24) and Shafali Verma (2/16) took two wickets each. In the first two games, DC-W didn’t have a good start, but this time, both openers had a flying beginning. Shafali Verma (36 off 32) and Lizelle Lee added 94 runs in just 11.3 overs and ended all hopes of UPW-W for a comeback.
Lee scored consecutive half-centuries and got out for 67 off 44 balls, with 8 fours and three sixes. Captain Jemimah Rodrigues played well for her 21 off 14, and Laura Wolvaardt scored an unbeaten 25 off 24 and hit a boundary to take DC-W to her first win of the season. It was the first win for Rodrigues as captain of the DC-W.
