Match no. 19 of WPL 2026 proved to be a nail-biter. The defending champion, Mumbai Indians, took on Gujarat Giants Women on Friday in Vadodara. The game was important for both teams in order to qualify for the playoffs of the WPL 2026, and it went down to the wire.
It started with GG-W winning the toss and deciding to bat first. It was the first time since the final of 2024 that a team batted first after winning the toss. Two in-form players, Hayley Matthews (6 off 8) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (2 off 6), got out cheaply, which put the defending champion on the back foot. S Sajana looked rusty and got out for 26 off 25. It was captain Harmanpreet Kaur who kept MI-W in the chase.
Amelia Kerr (20 off 16) and Amanjot Kaur (13 off 12) stayed for a while but couldn’t carry long. Harmanpreet, who tried hard, remained unbeaten on 82 off 48, as MI-W fell short by 11 runs, and GG-W booked a place in the playoffs.

The result of the game didn’t change the standings on the points table, but the WPL 2026 has found its second team to qualify for the playoffs. After RCB-W, who are at the top of the table, GG-W have also secured a place in the next round. They have ten points.
After the defeat, MI-W are currently third on the table. Their group games are done, and their qualification now depends on the match on Sunday. DC-W are fourth on the table with six points, followed by UP-W at the bottom with four points.
