Punjab Kings remain at the top of the points table after the 40th match of IPL 2026.
Table-toppers Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) locked horns in the Indian Premier League 2026 on Tuesday, April 28, at MYS International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh. Punjab suffered their first defeat of the season, losing against RR by six wickets.
Asked to bat first, Shreyas Iyer and Co. put up a brilliant batting performance. Opener Prabhsimran Singh’s half-century helped them set a challenging target of 223 for Rajasthan. PBKS’ middle order struggled to go big, but Marcus Stoinis added an unbeaten 62 towards the end to drive the scoreboard to a respectable total.
However, it was not enough for victory as RR openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (51) and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (43) made a blistering start, adding 51 runs in just 3.2 overs. Rajasthan reached 84 runs in the powerplay and crossed 100 runs within 10 overs.
Donovan Ferreira (52*) and Shubham Dubey (31) remained unbeaten till the end, driving RR to their sixth victory and ending Punjab Kings‘ winning streak in IPL 2026.
