Sunrisers Hyderabad have moved to the top of the points table after the 49th match of IPL 2026.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 33 runs in the 49th match of the Indian Premier League 2026 on May 6. After opting to field first, PBKS could not restrict SRH from posting a mammoth total.

Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head gave a blistering start to the batting, as Sunrisers Hyderabad reached 79 runs in the Powerplay. Ishan Kishan (55) and Heinrich Klaasen (69) hammered quickfire fifties to drive the scoreboard to a gigantic 235/4.

Losing openers Priyansh Arya (1) and Prabhsimran Singh (3) for single digits, PBKS suffered a big blow at the start of the chase. Even skipper Shreyas Iyer lost his wicket for just five runs.

Losing five wickets for 110 runs, the Punjab Kings succumbed to the pressure. Cooper Connolly (107*) hammered a marvellous century and remained unbeaten till the end. However, Punjab could only reach 202/7 in 20 overs, losing by 33 runs.

After the match, SRH have moved to the top of the IPL 2026 points table with 14 points. On the other hand, the Punjab Kings have now slipped to second place with 13 points.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Rajasthan Royals, and Gujarat Titans are next in the queue with 12 points each. CSK and DC take the sixth and seventh spots, respectively. KKR, MI and LSG continue to languish in the last three positions.
