Former Indian bowlers Pragyan Ojha and RP Singh are in line to become national selectors.

Former India spinner Pragyan Ojha and fast bowler RP Singh are in the fray to become the next Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) selectors and join the current selection panel headed by Ajit Agarkar.

Last month, the BCCI issued a call for applications for two national selector positions. The Indian board maintained specific criteria for replacing their two existing selectors, Subroto Banerjee (Central) and S. Sharath (South).

According to the Indian board, the applicant must have played at least seven test matches, 30 First-Class matches, or ten One-Day Internationals and twenty First-Class matches. The applicant must have retired from the game at least five years prior and have not served on any BCCI cricket committee for a total of five years.

RP Singh and Pragyan Ojha might beat Praveen Kumar and others to become BCCI selectors

According to the Indian Express, the BCCI did not receive the anticipated response from prominent former international cricket players.

Praveen Kumar, a former pacer for India, sought the position of national selector. Other Central Zone contenders included Himachal Pradesh’s Shakti Singh and former Uttar Pradesh pacer Ashish Winston Zaidi.

From 2005 to 2011, RP Singh played for India in 10 T20Is, 58 One-Day Internationals, and 14 test matches. He was a member of the Indian squad that won the first T20 World Cup in South Africa under the leadership of MS Dhoni.

Pragyan Ojha, meanwhile, featured in 18 ODIs, six T20Is, and 24 test matches for India between 2008 and 2013. His final test came in Sachin Tendulkar’s last test match for India in Mumbai, and Ojha was the Player of the Match for his 10-wicket haul.

The candidates will be interviewed after being shortlisted for two positions in the senior selection committee by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), which is made up of Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjpe, and Sulakshna Naik.

The BCCI office-bearers will then adopt the CAC’s report once it has recommended the names of the selected candidates. If chosen, the two new selectors will join the BCCI selection panel and begin their tenure next month.
