India's tour of West Indies 2023
Pragyan Ojha wants Tilak Varma to fill in the number 4 place in ODI squad
Left-hand batter Tilak Varma is leading run-scorer in the T20I series against West Indies.
India is in a deja-vu kind of situation once again as they are still unsure of a candidate who can fill in the No. 4 spot for them in the ODI squad. Shreyas Iyer is still injured and in rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. Iyer’s selection for the Asia Cupr and World Cup 2023 looks uncertain as per the last update on his fitness. Due to his absence, Team India needs to look for an alternative to Iyer for the mega event. Former Indian left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha has put forward an interesting name in the race.
Pragyan Ojha bats for Tilak Varma in ODIs
Tilak Varma has been batting magnificently in the ongoing T20I series against West Indies. Varma has scored 30+ runs in all three of his innings so far and shown a great temperament. Pragyan Ojha looks very impressed and wants him to fill in the space in the ODI team. Ojha tweeted, “Is there a possibility of expediting Tilak Varma’s inclusion to help settle the Number 4 debate for Team India in ODIs? He appears promising, displays strong composure, and adds the advantage of being a left-handed batter.” Tilak played a crucial, unbeaten 49-run knock to give India their first win in the series.
Tilak Varma is leading the top run-scorer chart in the ongoing T20I series against West Indies. He has scored 139 runs in the three innings he has played so far in the ongoing series. Everyone looks impressed with Tilak Varma’s composure and temperament in the T20I format. As India requires a formidable option at No. 4 in the ODI format, Tilak Varma came out as a great option to try out. Tilak has good List-A stats as well to put his case forward in the Indian ODI team. He has scored 1236 runs in 25 List-A innings at an average of 56.18 and has also smashed five centuries and five half-centuries.
With Shreyas Iyer still injured and not ready for a comeback, team India might be taking Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson along to play in the crucial position of Number 4. Suryakumar Yadav’s ODI stats don’t give good confidence to Indian fans, while Sanju Samson has remained inconsistent in his game and in the chances team management gave him. Very soon, the selectors will be announcing the squad for the Asia Cup, which will make many things clear about India’s number 4 in the World Cup.
