Preity Zinta holds 23 percent of the shares of Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League.
The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) is still months away, but the preparations have already begun. Franchises are busy finalizing the list of retentions and planning for the mega auction. But Punjab Kings have a different problem at their hands, which is not related to the players or management but there is strife among the co-owners.
It has become so intense that co-owner and Bollywood actress Preity Zinta has dragged fellow co-owner Mohit Burman to court and filed a legal case against him. Mohit, who holds the majority stake in the Punjab franchise, is reportedly selling some portion of his share to an undisclosed party.
IPL 2025: Preity Zinta drags fellow co-owner Mohit Burman to court for selling shares to a third party
The franchise is going through an internal turmoil at the moment. Bollywood actress Preity Zinta holds 23 percent of the share in the franchise.
She has filed a case in the Chandigarh High Court because Mohit has reportedly reached out to an undisclosed party to sell some part of his stake.
It has been learned that Mohit, who owns 48 percent of shares in PBKS, is trying to sell 11.5 percent of his stakes. Hence, as per the agreement between the four co-owners, it is a violation, which quoted that if any co-owner wants to sell any stake, it must first be offered to the exciting co-owners. The stake can only be sold to an outside party once the current promoters decline to purchase it.
Zinta claimed in the court that after offering to sell the stake to fellow directors, Burman has backed out but continues to seek a sale to the US company.
However, Mohit has denied these allegations. The hearing of the case is scheduled to take place on August 20.
Punjab Kings have been part of the Indian Premier League since the first season in 2008. But they are one of the few franchises that are yet to win a single title. The last time Punjab qualified for the playoffs was in 2014. It wouldn’t be a wrong statement to say that they are the most underperforming team in this tournament.
