Prithvi Shaw aggregated 429 runs in 4 matches he played for Northamptonshire in County One-day cup 2023.

Prithvi Shaw wasn’t chosen for India’s team for West Indies tour or the Asian Games squad in China, which is giving chances to young talents. He then decided not to play in the Deodhar Trophy and instead joined Northamptonshire in the UK’s County Championship.

Prithvi Shaw has truly hit his stride and showcased exceptional performance on the cricket field. He scored two centuries within just four innings, with one of them being a monumental 244 runs scored off 153 balls against Somerset. Notably, this score ranks as the second-highest ever recorded in List A matches played in England. In his other three innings, his scores were 125*, 26, and 34, exhibiting consistency and versatility in his batting approach. This incredible display of skill and dedication has propelled him to the position of the leading scorer, amassing an impressive 429 runs across four games.

Unfortunately, the journey for Prithvi Shaw in the ongoing One-Day Cup in England has hit a setback. He will no longer be able to participate in the tournament for Northamptonshire due to a knee injury sustained while fielding during a match against Durham on Sunday. The initial scan results have indicated that the injury is more severe than initially anticipated, according to a statement from Northamptonshire. As a pivotal player, Shaw is currently being closely monitored by the medical team of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He is set to consult with a specialist in London on Friday, seeking the best possible course of action for his recovery.

In recent developments, it’s noteworthy that Prithvi Shaw was not selected by the selectors for the white-ball series against the West Indies and Ireland. His last appearance for the Indian cricket team was during the tour of Sri Lanka by the Men In Blue back in July 2021.

Now, turning our attention to his performance in the One-Day Cup, let’s look at the contributions with the bat:

1. 34 vs Gloucestershire:

In pursuit of a target of 279, Prithvi Shaw managed to accumulate 34 runs from 35 deliveries, including 2 fours and 1 six, resulting in a strike rate of 97.14. Unfortunately, his team came up short in that match, losing by 23 runs.

2. 26 vs Sussex:

In chase of a target of 241 within 45 overs, Prithvi Shaw contributed 26 runs from 17 deliveries, featuring 4 fours and no sixes, achieving a striking rate of 152.94. Ultimately, his team secured victory in the match by 3 wickets (DLS) method.

This was his third match for Northamptonshire, and he managed to achieve his first-ever century for the team in just 81 balls. He continued his remarkable play, reaching the 200-run milestone in only 129 balls, hitting 24 fours and eight sixes along the way. As a result of his contributions, Northamptonshire posted a total score of 415/8 after choosing to bat.
