In a bid to make India comeback, Prithvi Shaw lands in UK to play 50-overs County Cricket competition

Prithvi Shaw will play for Northamptonshire County Cricket Club.

Young Indian opener Prithvi Shaw has landed in London and will be heading straight to Northamptonshire County Cricket Club to take part in County cricket. Shaw after a few initial problems related to documents and logistical troubles has arrived in England to take part in county cricket with Northamptonshire club.

After receiving No Objection Certificate (NOC) from BCCI, Shaw will be skipping the ongoing Deodhar Trophy in Puducherry to take part in County cricket. Prithvi Shaw was part of the West Zone squad in the Deodhar Trophy but didn’t play a game in the league stage.

Northamptonshire CEO confirms Shaw's participation

Northamptonshire County Cricket Club CEO Ray Payne welcomed Prithvi Shaw and said, “I am delighted to say Prithvi Shaw arrived in the UK on Sunday and will feature in our one-day cup starting Friday, 4th August."

Shaw also posted a story on his Instagram of landing in London and then one picture of him in Northampton town along with one of his friends. Shaw’s move was unexpected and everyone got the news only after Shaw’s Instagram stories.

Prithvi Shaw’s selection in the Deodhar Trophy created doubts over him joining Northamptonshire County. But as soon as he got the NOC from the BCCI, he departed for England to take part in the Metro Bank One Day Cup starting on 1st August. Northampton County’s officials also made the announcement only after Shaw arrived in London. Shaw will make his county debut against Gloucestershire at Cheltenham County ground for Northamptonshire.

A decent Indian Premier League season would have put Prithvi Shaw in contention as an opener for team India in the upcoming World Cup. Shaw failed miserably for the Delhi Capitals and was also dropped from the playing XI. Shaw also had a poor outing in the Duleep Trophy and scored only one fifty-plus score for West Zone in 4 innings. Shaw will be looking to fight back and bring himself back in contention for the Cricket World Cup with county performance.
