Prithvi Shaw set to make his return in Northamptonshire camp for county season 2024
Opener Prithvi Shaw scored 429 runs in his 4 innings for Northamptonshire earlier this season.
Discarded Indian opener Prithvi Shaw had a setback in his debut county season for Northamptonshire. His county stint was cut short due to a knee injury he sustained in a game against Durham. In the latest development, Shaw will return to county cricket in the second half of the season for Northamptonshire. The right-handed opening batsman went to England with high hopes of making his comeback in international cricket for India. But an unfortunate injury caused his early exit from the Northamptonshire camp only after the fourth game. Shaw smashed 244 runs against Somerset in the Metro-Bank One-Day Cup.
Shaw returns for Northamptonshire
Shaw expressed his happiness after the Northamptonshire deal and said that he is excited to join the camp once again next year. Shaw said, “I am so excited to be heading back to Northamptonshire next summer. Even though it was over quickly, I really enjoyed my time over there. It’s a great club to be a part of, and I felt so welcomed by everyone immediately. I can’t wait to get back over.” Shaw also revealed that a few other county teams were also in contact with him, but he gave preference to Northamptonshire.
Shaw said, “I had a few teams contact me after the tournament wanting to talk about playing for them next year, but I feel like I still have more to achieve with Northamptonshire. They gave me the opportunity this year, and I am very excited to be coming back.” Shaw also added that it was disappointing for him to get injured when he was getting back to his red-hot form. Shaw said, “My goal is to help win games for the team, and it was so disappointing to get injured and have to leave early this time.” Shaw only appeared in four List-A games during his brief tenure.
Shaw will join the Northamptonshire squad after the IPL 2024 in June next year. Northamptonshire County Cricket Club chief executive Ray Payne said, “We saw the impact Prithvi made in his short stay this year and how well he was received by supporters. To have secured him again for next year already and so much of the season is really pleasing.” The opening batsman smashed 244 runs against Somerset and then, in the next innings, scored another century against Durham. He scored 429 runs in his four innings for his county side.
