Prithvi Shaw feels that some wrong friends affected his cricket career.
Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw is going through a tough phase in his career. Shaw made a stunning international debut in 2018 with a century in his maiden test match against the West Indies. After his debut, he was considered a promising player and was even hailed as the successor of Sachin Tendulkar by many.
However, Shaw failed to cement his place in the Indian Cricket Team after his debut. He last played for India in July 2021. Last year, he went unsold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction.
Moreover, he was also dropped from the Mumbai squad in the domestic competitions due to disciplinary and fitness issues. So far, the right-handed batsman has played five tests, six ODIs, and one T20I match for India.
Prithvi Shaw reveals Rishabh Pant supported him during tough times
During an interview with News24, Shaw revealed how Rishabh Pant has supported him during his tough times. “Rishabh Pant keeps on contacting me, whenever he feels something is wrong,” the 25-year-old said.
Shaw also shed light on how some wrong friends affected his cricket career in the past. He also revealed how he lost his discipline for cricket by focusing on the wrong things.
“I have taken some wrong decisions in life. I feel that I started giving less time to cricket. I used to spend almost half of my day at the ground till 2023. But after that, I started giving importance to the wrong things”, the opening batsman said.
“I made some wrong friends. At that time, I was at the top and this is the time when you attract a lot of friends. I got off-track and my time at the ground went down from 8 hours to just 4 hours,” he added.
Shaw is looking forward to making a fresh start in his cricket career and has begun his hard work once again by following his previous strict routine.
“I am on track now. I have gone back to basics now. The hard work I used to do 5 years ago, I think I have started that routine again. I believe in myself. I don’t know how many people believe in me or not. But I believe in myself. I know how to get there. That’s why I am doing all this,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, Shaw is looking to change his domestic team. The right-handed batsman has written to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to switch his side in the upcoming domestic season. Some reports claimed that he got the NOC and might play for Maharashtra.
