"Not thinking about India selection": Prithvi Shaw after smashing double century in County Cricket
Prithvi Shaw, who came as an opener, stayed at the wicket till 50th over of Northamptonshire innings.
Discarded Indian opener who has shattered almost every record in the County One-Day Championship with his double ton against Somerset Playing for Northamptonshire, opener Prithvi Shaw smashed a double ton in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup tournament and scored 244 runs in 153 balls. Shaw scored 39 boundaries in his innings as he hit 28 fours and 11 balls out of the park for six. Prithvi Shaw, with this one knock, has set the stage on fire and brought himself back into contention for a possible comeback for the Indian team. Talking about his comeback in the Indian squad, Shaw made a huge statement.
Shaw not thinking about Selection
After scoring the double-century, when Shaw was asked if he’s thinking about India selection, he said, “Definitely an experience for sure. Not really thinking what the Indian selector may be thinking, but I just want to have a good time here. Have a good time with the players over here and the support staff. Northamptonshire have given me this opportunity… They are really looking after me. I am really enjoying it.”
Prithvi Shaw became the first Asian batter to score a double century in the County One-Day Championship. Shaw scored his century in 81 balls, and then he raced to the double century in next 48 balls.
This was Prithvi Shaw’s second double ton in one-day cricket. He scored his first double ton against Puducherry in 2021 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and scored 227 runs. Shaw expressed that this score was in his mind when he reached it. He said, “The 227 was in my head, to be honest. I spoke to Whiteman when he was there, and I told him it was 227, my highest score. But it was a good team effort all around. I always try to win matches for the team, and I am the kind of player who puts the team first and then himself. If scoring like this can help my team win, then I should continue this.”
Prithvi Shaw became the highest scorer in one innings in the county one-day championship game. Shaw almost joined the list of just four batters—Narayan Jagadeesan, Rohit Sharma, Alistair Brown, and D’arcy Short—who have scored 250 or more runs in a List A innings. Northamptonshire defeated Somerset by 87 runs. Shaw needs to be consistent in his batting performances to get back in the Indian squad. Currently, Shaw’s comeback looks tougher. With tough competition, he will have to score big in upcoming games as well.
