Prithvi Shaw wrote a letter to MCA requesting an NOC and revealed he has an offer from another state association.

Discarded India opener Prithvi Shaw has requested a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to join a new domestic team for his “growth and development as a cricketer” and to break up his relationship with his home team, Mumbai.

Shaw has played white ball cricket for Mumbai but has been absent from the red-ball setup for a while. His off-field disciplinary problems, however, have garnered more media attention than his on-field accomplishments.

On Monday, June 23, 2025, a senior MCA source told PTI that Shaw had sent a letter to the governing body requesting a transfer NOC.

“Yes, we have received a letter from him and it has been forwarded to the apex council for approval, and a decision on the same would be taken by the evening hopefully,” the MCA source informed.

Shaw has played 58 First-Class (FC) cricket matches, scoring 4556 runs at an average of 46.02 and best score of 379. He hit 13 centuries and 18 fifties in his career with Mumbai and India.

“At this juncture of my career..”- Prithvi Shaw offered new opportunity with another team

Shaw, who is widely considered a gifted young player, made his international cricket debut in 2018 as a teenager and scored a century. But since then, he hasn’t fulfilled his first pledge. He is frequently compared to Vinod Kambli, another talented player whose career was cut short by a lack of discipline, in Mumbai cricket circles.

The 25-year-old wrote a letter to the MCA expressing his gratitude for his time with the Mumbai team, where he made his debut in 2017, but expressing his wish to move on at this time.

“I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) for the valuable opportunities and unwavering support extended to me during my time representing the association. It has truly been an honour and a privilege to be part of the MCA setup, and I am deeply grateful for the exposure and experience I have gained here.

At this juncture in my career, I have been presented with a promising opportunity to play professional cricket under another State Association, which I believe will further contribute to my growth and development as a cricketer. In light of this, I kindly request you to issue me a No Objection Certificate (NOC) that will enable me to officially represent the new State Association in the upcoming domestic season,” Prithvi Shaw wrote in his letter to MCA.

Prithvi Shaw, who has represented India in five test matches and six ODIs, was cut from the Mumbai Ranji team last season due to his lack of discipline and poor fitness.

Prithvi Shaw last played for Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy final, which his team won by five wickets over Madhya Pradesh, after missing the remainder of the Ranji Trophy season.

Throughout the previous season, administrators not only harshly criticised Shaw’s discipline and level of fitness, but Shreyas Iyer, who guided Mumbai to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy victory, also appeared to be quite upset.
