PSL 2025 is expected to take place between the months of April and May.
The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 draft is scheduled to take place on January 11. The date for the next season’s draft is later than what has been typical for PSL drafts due to tournament’s adjusted window.
The league will now be held during a four-week window between early April and mid May. The decision has been made to avoid clashes with a packed international cricket calendar. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to move the PSL to this window to ensure the greater availability of foreign players.
Historically, the PSL was pushed later in the year to avoid direct clash with Indian Premier League (IPL), but the PCB now believes that the coexistence is now more viable.
The decision to shift the PSL into the April-May window was not without its own difficulties. According to ESPNcricinfo, several franchise owners opposed the change, however, the PSL governing council had the authority to make the final call unilaterally.
Unsold IPL players to be the primary focus at PSL 2025 draft
Many big names, including David Warner, Kane Williamson, Jonny Bairstow, and others, who were unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction are expected to be the primary focus at the PSL 2025 draft. Given the fact that there are no major international fixtures during this period, the PSL can serve as an ideal platform for many of these players to remain in form.
However, England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) dispute with the Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA) over issuing the No objection Certificate (NOCs) to players for overseas league, can affect the participation of the English players in the event.
While the T20 Blast does not overlap with the PSL, the County Championship does, potentially limiting the availability of English cricketers for the PSL. England has been a strong source of overseas players in the PSL historically.
