Quinton de Kock becomes first South African, overall 15th batsman to score 500+ runs in a single edition of ICC Cricket World Cup

Quinton de Kock has scored 545 runs in ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 with help of four centuries.
South African wicket-keeper Quinton De Kock had a wonderful World Cup 2023 so far and he is smashing runs at ease in the ongoing tournament. Quinton De Kock has smashed his 4th World Cup in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. South African wicket-keeper looks to enjoy his final ODI tournament. He has announced his retirement from the ODI format. De Kock took South African innings to a commendable position after losing skipper Temba Bavuma early against New Zealand.
With his brilliant knock against New Zealand at MCA Stadium in Pune, Quinton De Kock has now bettered his lead in the leading run-scorers tally in the ongoing tournament. He now has 545 runs in 7 innings with four magnificent centuries. He has also become the first ever South African batter to score more than 500 runs in one World Cup tournament. No other South African batter achieved this milestone in his World Cup career.
De Kock breaks Kallis' record
Jacques Kallis held the previous record with 485 runs in 10 games. Kallis had a terrific run in the World Cup 2007 in West Indies with a century and three half-centuries in the tournament. Quinton De Kock has broken Kallis’ record to become the first ever South African player to touch 500 runs milestone in a single edition of the World Cup. He is the 15th batter overall to score more than 500 World Cup runs in one edition of the mega event.
Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for scoring the most number of runs in one edition. Sachin Tendulkar scored 673 runs in 11 games in World Cup 2003. Sachin has crossed 500+ runs in a World Cup twice. Before 2003, he scored 523 runs in 1996 World Cup. Quinton De Kock is in line to overtake Sachin Tendulkar as well with the kind of form he is running in this edition. De Kock has two more league games left with one semi-final and he is currently 128 runs behind Sachin’s record.

Quinton De Kock completed his 4th World Cup century with a humongous six over long leg against Jimmy Nessham. He took 103 balls to complete his 21st ODI century. De Kock perished after scoring 114 runs in 116 balls with 10 fours and 3 sixes. He added 200 runs along with Rassie van der Dussen for the second wicket. Earlier in the game, New Zealand skipper Tom Latham won the toss and invited South Africa to bat first at MCA Stadium in Pune.
