Quinton de Kock equals AB de Villiers' record of most centuries by a South African batsman in ICC Cricket World Cup history

Quinton de Kock has already crossed 500 runs in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Quinton de Kock, who announced his retirement from ODI cricket after the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, has been in fine form in the tournament. And in the ongoing match against New Zealand in Pune, he equaled AB de Villiers’ record for most centuries in CWC by a South African.

South Africa came into this match with 5 wins in 6 games and being at second spot in the World Cup points table. On the other hand, New Zealand had 4 wins from 6 games in the tournament.

Tom Latham, stand-in captain of New Zealand, won the toss and chose to bowl first. Tim Southee replaced Lockie Ferguson for Kiwis, while for South Africa, Kagiso Rabada came in for Tabraiz Shamsi.

South Africa got a decent start to their innings, as Temba Bavuma (24) and Quinton de Kock added 38 runs. While New Zealand bowlers were able to keep a leash on the scoring rate for the first few overs, Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen built a platform for themselves to launch off.

Quinton de Kock’s golden World Cup run in final ODI turnout continues, equals AB de Villiers’ record

Quinton de Kock has had a brilliant run in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 tournament. He started with 100 against Sri Lanka in Delhi and followed it up with 109 against Australia in Lucknow. Then after a couple of dull games, De Kock returned in style, scoring 174 against Bangladesh in Mumbai.

And now against New Zealand in Pune, Quinton de Kock equaled Kumar Sangakkara’s record for most centuries by a wicket-keeper-batsman in one edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup, as he stroked his way to his 4th century in the CWC 2023. He reached the milestone in 103 balls with 8 fours and 3 sixes to his name.

With this century, he also equaled former Proteas captain AB de Villiers’ record for most centuries by a South African batter in World Cups. De Villiers also made 4 centuries in World Cups. His first came against West Indies in the 2007 edition and then he hit two tons in the 2011 World Cup against West Indies and Netherlands. His final ODI World Cup ton was against West Indies in the 2015 World Cup.
