IND vs SA: Quinton de Kock equals Sanath Jayasuriya's record for most ODI centuries against India

Quinton de Kock made 106 in 89 balls in the third ODI between India and South Africa in Vizag.

On Saturday, 6th December, South African opener Quinton de Kock tied Sanath Jayasuriya’s record for scoring most ODI centuries against India with his first dominant performance in the ongoing three-match ODI series in Vizag.

India and South Africa clashed in the third and final ODI of the series at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam, on December 6, 2025. India won the toss for the first time since November 2023 in ODIs and after 20 games in the format.

India’s stand-in captain, KL Rahul, decided to bat first and revealed that India made one change. Tilak Varma replaced Washington Sundar in the Indian playing XI.  

Due to hamstring injuries, Tony de Zorzi and Nandre Burger were unable to play, forcing South Africa to make two substitutions. Ottneil Baartman and Ryan Rickelton were part of the starting lineup for the third ODI.

Arshdeep Singh dismissed Ryan Rickelton for a duck in the first over itself, but then Quinton de Kock and captain Temba Bavuma added 113 runs for the second wicket, with Bavuma making 48 in 67 balls. He was dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja and caught by Virat Kohli.

De Kock continued hammering the Indian bowling to all parts of the Vizag ground. He added 54 runs with Matthew Breeztke, who made 24 runs, and then Aiden Markram was dismissed for one run.

Quinton de Kock hits seventh ODI ton against India; equals Sanath Jayasuriya’s record

With a vicious performance of ball-striking, the South African wicket-keeper batter completed his seventh ODI century against India, further solidifying his status as one of the nation’s most potent visiting batters.

From the beginning, De Kock appeared to be in total control, taking away any loose ball and keeping a pace that India found difficult to control. He reached a hundred off 80 balls after pulling off Harshit Rana for a sixth six, which perfectly encapsulated the rhythm of his knock.

De Kock’s century tied him with Jayasuriya’s seven ODI hundreds against India; however, it took the Sri Lankan 85 innings to reach that milestone compared to de Kock’s 23. Additionally, the left-hander equaled AB de Villiers’ record of seven ODI hundreds in India—the most of any visiting batter.

With his performance in Vizag, he and Kumar Sangakkara are currently tied for the most ODI hundreds by a designated wicket-keeper batter at 23. With Shai Hope, Adam Gilchrist, Jos Buttler, AB de Villiers, and MS Dhoni trailing behind, it is an uncommon position to hold.
