Quinton de Kock announces retirement from ODIs at the age of 30, ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 to be his last
South African wicket-keeper Quinton De Kock had already retired from Tests in December 2021.
As Cricket South Africa announced their 15-member squad for the World Cup 2023, Quinton De Kock gave a shock to all the fans. In shocking news to the South African fans, South African wicket-keeper batter Quinton De Kock has announced his retirement from One-day international cricket. Quinton De Kock will be playing in the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. The upcoming mega event will be his last One-day international assignment.
Quinton De Kock's sudden announcement
Quinton De Kock is just 30 years old and has already announced his retirement from the two formats of the game. QDK had already said goodbye to test cricket after the India series in December 2021. Now, he has decided to put an end to his One-day international career. Now, only T20I remains for him to represent his country South Africa at the international level. De Kock’s sudden announcement came as a surprise to everyone.
Case of Leagues over International Cricket!
Just a few days ago he was signed up by Big Bash League team Melbourne Renegades. Quinton was willing to skip South Africa’s white-ball series against India after the World Cup 2023. Cricket South Africa was in talks with the wicket-keeper batter to not skip the international cricket for the T20 Leagues. QDK’s retirement came in as another example of players choosing T20 leagues around the world over their international cricket career.
India’s white-ball series is clashing with the BBL fixtures where QDK has just earned 360,000 Australian Dollars. After his retirement, the South African wicket-keeper can think of prolonging his T20 league career around the world. De Kock has been named in South Africa’s squad and will be playing a crucial role for his team. South Africa have also announced their 15-member squad with Temba Bavuma as skipper.
Quinton De Kock has played 140 ODI games in his career after making his debut against New Zealand in 2013. De Kock has scored 5966 runs at an average of 44.85 with 17 centuries and 29 half-centuries. South African wicket-keeper was also involved in 197 dismissals so far in his career. He was part of the South African squad for 2015 and 2019 World Cup as well. South Africa will begin their World Cup 2023 campaign against Sri Lanka in Delhi.
