Rachin Ravindra breaks Sachin Tendulkar's 27 years old record in ICC Cricket World Cup

Rachin Ravindra has so far smashed 3 centuries in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra is running in red-hot form in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. Ravindra’s stellar run continued at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru against Pakistan as he smashed his 3rd century of the tournament. With a 108-run knock against Pakistan, Ravindra has now jumped up to second place in the leading run-scorer table of the tournament with 523 runs in 7 innings.

The 23-year-old Kiwi all-rounder was named after the two of India’s legendary cricketers Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar. Rachin also revealed that Sachin Tendulkar is his role model in the game. Ravindra has now overtaken his role model after scoring his 3rd World Cup hundred at the age of just 23. Sachin had only 2 World Cup centuries when he played 1996 World Cup in India at the age of under 25.

Only Kiwi with 3 World Cup hundreds

Rachin Ravindra has also become the leading batter to score the most number of centuries for New Zealand in the World Cup. Rachin Ravindra has left behind legendary names like Glenn Turner who scored two centuries in the 1975 World Cup, Martin Guptill who scored two in the 2015 World Cup and Kane Williamson who scored two centuries in the 2019 World Cup. Martin Guptill holds the record for highest individual score for NZ in a World Cup game - 237*.

Rachin Ravindra was almost close to breaking another record of Sachin Tendulkar but it got delayed by just a few runs now. He will have another opportunity to aim at it against Sri Lanka in New Zealand’s final league game. Ravindra needs just one run to break Sachin’s record of most runs scored by a Under-25 batsman in a single edition of ICC Cricket World Cup. Sachin Tendulkar scored 523 runs in the ICC Cricket World Cup 1996 when he was 23 years old. Kiwi star Rachin now has 523 runs under his name in the ongoing tournament and needs just one more run to break Sachin's record.

Rachin Ravindra needs 10 more runs to break Jonny Bairstow’s record of the most number of runs in a debut World Cup. Rachin currently has 523 runs in 8 innings while Jonny Bairstow scored 532 runs in 11 innings in World Cup 2019 for England. Rachin Ravindra played a magnificent knock of 108 runs in 94 balls with 15 fours and a six against Pakistan in Bengaluru. New Zealand have posted 401 runs on the board. A win in Bangalore will almost secure their spot in the semifinal.
