Wicket-keeper batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s gritty knock powered Afghanistan to an emphatic five-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the third and final ODI of the three-match series in Sharjah.
Batting first, veteran batsman Mahmudullah and captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz steered Bangladesh to a competitive total with their knocks of 98 and 66 runs respectively. Afghanistan’s star all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai starred with the ball recording excellent bowling figures of 4/37 in the first innings.
Chasing a tricky total on the slow surface of Sharjah, Afghanistan’s run chase was led by wicket-keeper batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz who scored a gritty century (101) off 120 balls, registering his eighth ODI hundred. Gurbaz’s knock came with the help of five fours and seven sixes.
Gurbaz, released by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction, formed a match-winning 100-run partnership with Azmatullah Omarzai. This win helped Afghanistan seal the series 2-1 convincingly against Bangladesh.
