Rahul Dravid feels that different pitches in India bring different challenges for the players.

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 has already produced some brilliant games. Strong teams have gone down heavily, and smaller teams have produced some amazing performances. Team India have shown a superb show so far, with four consecutive wins in the tournament. India have bowled out the opposition three times in the four matches they have played. However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has rated the pitches of two of those three games "average."

India played their opening game against Australia in Chennai and bowled them out for just 199. Then, in Ahmedabad, India dismissed Pakistan for a total of 191 runs. And the ICC has rated both of those pitches as "average." Hence, the Indian head coach, Rahul Dravid, has shown his disagreement and said that such pitches bring out different skills for a player in this game.

"When it spins it brings bowlers into play"- Rahul Dravid on ICC rating pitches "Average"

Rahul Dravid feels that pitches that offer a turn bring the bowler into the game. An "average" rating is an indication to the curator that the ICC doesn't want such pitches. Until October 15, only two pitches had an "average" rating, and other pitches had "good" and "very good" ratings. However, Dravid feels that bowlers should also get help from the pitch, or if the pitch that produces 350 runs is good, then it is better to play T20.

Ahead of the NZ clash on Sunday, Rahul Dravid said, "If you want to only see 350-run matches and rate only those pitches as good, then I disagree with that. When it spins a little bit or something happens that brings the bowlers into the game, and you start rating pitches as average, where does it leave the bowlers? Why are they coming then? We need to have a better way of deciding what is good or average."

The Indian head coach said that there are different types of pitches in India, and teams should be able to adjust to the conditions offered. He said that such pitches bring different challenges for the player and help them improve. Rahul Dravid said, "If you want a spinner to come in and bowl 10 overs for 60 and go, and one ball spins or two balls spin, and you rate that as average - I disagree with that."
