India won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 with Rohit Sharma as captain and Rahul Dravid as head coach.
Rahul Dravid, the former head coach of India, has praised former captain Rohit Sharma for transforming the Indian Cricket Team into an aggressive hitting unit, particularly in the Twenty20 International format.
The Indian squad won the ICC T20 World Cup in 2024, their first ICC trophy since winning the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid.
According to Dravid, the Indian team in the T20I format is so aggressive that other teams are observing them and believing they should imitate the Men in Blue.
Dravid described the current Team India squad in the shortest format of the game as “changing what T20 cricket is like.”
“India is absolutely changing what T20 cricket is like. Indian batting in T20 cricket at the moment is off the charts. It’s close to 300 (runs per game), and everyone else in the world is now having to catch up. In the space of three or four years, you’re seeing that everyone’s looking at India and saying, ‘Shucks, man, we’ve got to match this.’” Dravid said in an interview with Breakfast with Champions.
The Indian team has transformed into a behemoth in T20I cricket, as they went unbeaten in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 to lift the title and recently went unbeaten to win Asia Cup 2025 as well, which was played in the T20 format.
“Rohit’s got to take a large credit for that” – Rahul Dravid on the Indian team’s new mindset in T20s

Furthermore, Dravid stated that large credit for India’s transformation into a T20 beast had to go to Rohit. He said that as captain and leader, Rohit Sharma took it upon himself to bat aggressively and captain his side with aggression, inspiring other players to do the same and become fearless.
“Certainly, from the time I came in, a lot of the discussion with Rohit was around how we wanted to play a more aggressive brand of cricket, and we tried (to do just that). We started right from the beginning because we could see that that’s the way the game was evolving, and Rohit’s got to take a large credit for that, right? To move the team in a particular direction. Play the game in a lot more aggressive and a lot more positive manner. “I’m glad that India has sort of kept going in that direction to the point where India’s kind of lately,” Dravid said.
Dravid once more emphasized Rohit’s position as the group’s leader while claiming that he just deserved a portion of the credit for this development.
“It has to be driven by the leaders, right? It has to be driven by the captain. It has to be driven by the players because they’ve got to do it, right? They’ve got to take the risks. You might be giving them a certain amount of security, but in the end, they are the ones who’ve got to take those chances, take those risks,” Dravid added.
Rohit Sharma now only plays for India in ODIs and recently was the Player of the Series in Australia ODIs, with scores of 8, 73, and 121*. On the other hand, Rahul Dravid’s India head coach tenure ended with the ICC T20 World Cup win in 2024.
