Rahul Dravid disappointed with Team India's preparations before ICC WTC Final against Australia
Indian coach Rahul Dravid was grilled by two of his former teammates, Sourav Ganguly and Harbhajan Singh.
India have once again struggled to put up a fight in the big ICC event. India got a thrashing from Australia in the World Test Championship Final at The Oval. India lost the WTC Final by a huge 209 runs margin. A lot of questions were raised during the IPL 2023 about team India’s preparations for the big ICC World Test Championship Final. Now, team India’s head coach Rahul Dravid has come out in the open and said he is not happy with the team’s preparation. Indian team played WTC Final just a week after the IPL 2023 Final, on the other hand, two Australian batters were involved in the County Championship while the rest was practicing back at home.
Dravid opens up about team India's preparations
India team head coach Rahul Dravid said, “I am never going to be happy with the preparations as a coach. But That’s the reality I am ready to accept, and we all have to accept it. The schedulers are so cramped and tight… If you are playing International cricket, and if you are here for 3 weeks before the tour, playing two side games, you are going to be better prepared”. Rahul Dravid was grilled by two of his former teammates Sourav Ganguly and Harbhajan Singh, Dravid looked visibly frustrated after the result and with team India’s preparations before the big WTC Final game against Australia.
Team India had no time for playing side games before the final and was busy with Indian Premier League assignments. Dravid added, “The situation doesn’t allow it. We have to make do with what we can… We just need to look at ourselves, see how we can get better, and what we can improve on”. The Indian captain, Rohit Sharma also shared the same feeling. In the press conference, he said, “We had good 20-25 days of preparations with few tour games in our last England tour and we were leading by 2-1 in that series”. India lost two consecutive WTC Finals, one against New Zealand in 2021 and one against Australia in 2023.
