India's tour of West Indies 2023
Rahul Dravid doesn't deserve to be Indian coach: Former Pakistan cricketer
Team India have failed to win a knockout game under Rahul Dravid’s coaching tenure in last two years.
Indian cricket team’s head coach Rahul Dravid faced severe criticism over his experimental approach in the ODI series against West Indies and the team’s poor performance in T20Is. After winning the ODI series against West Indies, Team India suffered two back-to-back defeats in the ongoing T20I series. West Indies won the first two games of the five-match T20I series and put Indian team management under pressure. Former Pakistan leg spinner Danish Kaneria has slammed Rahul Dravid as a coach and said Dravid doesn’t deserve to be the coach in the T20I format for India.
Danish Kaneria praises Ashish Nehra
Danish Kaneria on his YouTube channel said that a captain like Hardik Pandya requires someone like Ashish Nehra along with him to fulfill the expectations he carries for Team India. Kaneria said, “Why is this Indian team not showing enough intent? Hardik Pandya has achieved a lot of success with the Gujarat Titans because of Ashish Nehra’s presence. India must show more intent in T20Is, and a coach plays a big role in that. Rahul Dravid, no doubt, was a world-class player, but Rahul Dravid doesn’t deserve to be a coach in T20s. He is very slow.”
Danish Kaneria praised former Indian fast bowler and current Gujarat Titans head coach Ashish Nehra. He added, “On the other hand, you see Ashish Nehra constantly do something and pass on the messages in the field. I think he should get an opportunity.” Gujarat Titans, in their very first two seasons of the Indian Premier League, won the championship in the IPL 2022 and missed out by the barest of margins in the IPL 2023 final against Chennai Super Kings. So far, they have dominated the league with their performances.
Head coach Rahul Dravid also faced criticism after the management decided to drop Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for the last two ODIs. Fans have also slammed Dravid for not showing any intent for the future. Team India will enter the field on Tuesday against West Indies to fight back and not let the 5-match T20I series slip away from their hands. Providence stadium, Guyana will host the third T20I between India and West Indies. Team India will be looking to improve their batting performance, as in both games they struggled to put up a challenge against the West Indies bowling lineup.
