Rahul Dravid doesn't want to continue as Indian Cricket Team's head coach; VVS Laxman likely to takeover - Reports

Rahul Dravid's tenure as head coach ended after the conclusion of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 didn't end the way team India would have liked. After winning ten games in a row, India entered the finals but lost the most important game of the competition. Australia ended up winning the finals and also won their sixth world cup title. On the other hand, India were left empty-handed. It was also the last assignment for India's head coach, Rahul Dravid.

Notably, Dravid's tenure has now ended with the conclusion of the finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. India have found a good deal of success under his coaching, and the big question is whether Dravid will renew his contract as a coach or not. However, as per media reports, former Indian captain is not keen to renew it.

VVS Laxman to replace Rahul Dravid

With Rahul Dravid not looking to stay in contention now, the big question is, who will be the next head coach? There are three big ICC tournaments coming up in the next two years, and India will be keen to look for someone who can help the team and end the ICC trophy drought. In this context, VVS Laxman's name is coming up as the front-runner.

Laxman is currently serving as the head of National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. He has served as "interim coach" for Indian team on a few occasions and travelled as the head coach with the team at recently concluded Asian Games 2023 where India won the gold medal. As per the media sources, he is all set to replace Dravid for the position. Laxman is currently with the team as a coach for the upcoming five-match T20I series against Australia.

Rahul Dravid took over the role of head coach after the end of ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021, replacing Ravi Shastri. Under him, India played the finals of World Test Champions and ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and also played the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2022. When asked about his future as India's coach after the World Cup finals, Dravid said, "I haven't thought about it. I've just come off a game. I had no time to think about this and no time to reflect on it. Yeah, I will when I get the time to do that."
