Rahul Dravid’s contract as India’s head coach ends after the World Cup final.

Team India, after having a dominant run in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, succumbed under pressure in the final against Australia. India got decimated by Australia in the World Cup final at Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. Australia defeated India by six wickets in a 240-run chase. It was an all-round performance from Kangaroos to decimate men in blue in the big final and they went on to win their sixth 50-over World Cup title.

Indian coach Rahul Dravid will be having plenty of disappointment as he suffered another heartbreak first as a player in the 2003 World Cup final, as a captain in the 2007 World Cup, and now as a coach in the 2023 World Cup final. Rahul Dravid’s coaching stint also comes to an end, and he will possibly walk away without any ICC titles in his career. Rahul Dravid might still stay as Indian coach, as the final talks are yet to be done with BCCI.

Rahul Dravid is yet to decide on his role

Talking about his future as Indian head coach and a possible extension of Rahul Dravid’s contract, Dravid said that he has not thought about his future with Indian team yet. He said, “I haven’t thought about my future as the Indian Head Coach; I was fully focused on winning this World Cup.” Rahul Dravid has yet to have a discussion with the board about the extension of his contract. There are reports that BCCI might extend the support staff’s contract.

Rahul Dravid also revealed that there is a lot of disappointment in Indian dressing room and added, “The boys are disappointed. There were a lot of emotions in the dressing room. It was tough to see them as coaches. Having spent so much time with them, I know them personally. It was tough. I’m sure the sun will come up tomorrow morning, and we will move on. That’s what we do as sportsmen. Games like these will make you cherish the highs.”

Indian head coach Rahul Dravid also praised Rohit Sharma’s leadership skills. He said, “Rohit Sharma is a fantastic leader. He has got the dressing room and is always invested in conversations. He has invested a lot in the team; he wanted to lead by example, and he did that. He’s an exceptional leader… As a batsman, he always sets a tone for us.” Rohit Sharma scored 597 runs in the 2023 World Cup for India with an exceptional strike rate of 125.94 in 11 innings.
