Rain threat continues in Colombo for remainder of Asia Cup 2023 as well

As the authorities have decided to use R. Premadasa Stadium as the venue for the rest of Asia Cup 2023 tournament, a complete washout looks on the cards. Colombo has been witnessing severe rain for the past few weeks, and the weather forecast suggests it will see more rain in the coming days. The ongoing Asia Cup 2023 has advanced to the round of super 4, with rain causing interruptions in every match played in Sri Lanka. The biggest disappointment came when a high-voltage encounter between India and Pakistan was washed out after only one innings.

Colombo might witness intense rainfall in the upcoming days. The super 4 round will resume on September 9 with Sri Lanka taking on Bangladesh at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. From the 9th to the final day on September 17th, there are more than 50% chances of rain every day in Colombo. There’s a 90% chance of rain on September 9, when Sri Lanka will be resuming the super 4 round of Asia Cup against Bangladesh. The delayed monsoon has caused severe rain around Sri Lanka in the past week, including in Kandy, Dambulla, and the capital city of Colombo. Along with Multan and Lahore in Pakistan, Kandy and Colombo were chosen as venues in Sri Lanka.

Super 4 will host another India vs Pakistan game in Colombo, but the rain threats loom large over the game as there are 90% chances of rain in Colombo on Sunday. On September 17, Asia Cup 2023 finals is scheduled to be played in Colombo. On that day, there will be a 60% chance of rain along with heavy thunderstorms. Earlier, a few reports suggested that Asian Cricket Council is looking to change venues and shift the super four round and finals from Colombo to Hambantota. But India and Pakistan both refused to play in Hambantota, and Colombo was again chosen as the final venue.
