Rajat Patidar joined RCB in IPL 2021.
On Thursday, February 13, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) announced Rajat Patidar as their captain for the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
RCB’s announcement comes after months of speculation, during which several names were considered for the leadership role of the franchise.
The franchise finished fourth in the IPL 2024 and were then eliminated in the Eliminator by Rajasthan Royals. Despite not winning the title, their last season is seen as a positive as how they turned their campaign around in the second half of the tournament.
Earlier, the franchise released Faf du Plessis before the mega auction. He captained RCB from the 2022 to 2024 seasons. During his tenure, the team reached Qualifier 2 in 2022 and finished sixth in IPL 2023.

Rajat Patidar will lead the franchise in the upcoming IPL season. He joined the franchise during the IPL 2021 season and has so far scored 799 runs in 27 games at a strike rate of 159 for the franchise.
The franchise made this announcement in a live event broadcast on Star Sports Network and Hotstar. RCB also took it to social media platforms to share the big news.
RCB revamped their squad for the upcoming season, releasing big names like Faf du Plessis, Mohammed Siraj, and Glenn Maxwell. They went all out to strengthen their fast bowling department, signing Josh Hazlewood for INR 12.5 crores and Bhuvneshwar Kumar for INR 10.75 crores.
The past year and a half has been special for Patidar as the Madhya Pradesh batsman made his ODI debut in December 2023 and his test debut in February 2024.
Patidar will become the eighth player to captain the franchise, continuing a rich legacy that includes Rahul Dravid, Kevin Pietersen, Anil Kumble, Daniel Vettori, Virat Kohli, Shane Watson, and Faf du Plessis.
