Indian industrialist and philanthropist Ratan Tata confirmed that he had no connection to cricket.

Ratan Tata, the well-known industrialist, has denied making any announcement or offering any rewards to Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan or any other player in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

The post was made a few days after several small news outlets and social media platforms stated that the cricketer received a ₹10 crore pledge from the Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons. The cricketer was allegedly penalized by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for flying Indian flag during celebrations following their victory against Pakistan in the ongoing World Cup 2023.

Afghanistan defeated Pakistan by eight wickets in Chennai on Monday, causing yet another upset in the World Cup 2023. Afghanistan chased down 283 runs target in 49 overs against a bowling line-up that included Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf and Hasan Ali.

Pakistan had reached 282 for 7 in 50 overs, with skipper Babar Azam scoring 74 and opener Abdullah Shafique scoring 58.

‘No connection to cricket whatsoever,' says Ratan Tata

There were WhatsApp messages and social media videos circulating that claimed Ratan Tata had promised a Rs 10 crore award for Afghanistan cricketer Rashid Khan following their victory against Pakistan, but the famed businessman has dismissed any such allegations.

Several cricket fans on X praised Ratan Tata for his allegedly generous announcement of rewarding Rashid Khan after Afghanistan vs Pakistan match.

However, the legendary businessman Ratan Tata has denied making any such announcement and said that he doesn’t have any connection to cricket.

“I have made no suggestions to the ICC or any cricket faculty about any cricket member regarding a fine or reward to any players. I have no connection to cricket whatsoever. Please do not believe WhatsApp forwards and videos of such nature unless they come from my official platforms,” Ratan Tata posted.
