Mark Wood scored crucial 11 runs for England before getting dismissed by Ravi Ashwin.
As expected, the Indian spinners have done an outstanding job against England in the first innings of the ongoing first test at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. Spinners Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja bowled terrific spells to put England under pressure in Hyderabad. Ashwin continued his good run with the ball and kept the pressure mounting on in England’s first innings.
Ravi Ashwin bowled a magnificent off-spin delivery to English tail-ender Mark Wood, who was looking like a possible threat. Wood started to build a partnership along with English skipper Ben Stokes but Ashwin’s terrific delivery gave India a respite. Team India wasted a review on an outside leg call against Wood just a ball before English batter was dismissed against Ashwin.
Ashwin destroys Wood’s Woodwork
England’s number 10 Mark Wood came before tea when India brought England to 193/8. Wood came in and played a few shots against Indian bowlers before tea. Captain Rohit Sharma looked worried after a 41-run stand between Ben Stokes and Wood for the ninth wicket, he carried on with Ashwin for a few more overs and his decision paid off.

Ravi Ashwin bowled a regular off-spinner from round the wicket angle to Mark Wood. English batter looked went for a lusty slog sweep against Ashwin but missed the length to lose his off stump. Wood perished after scoring 11 runs in 24 balls with 2 boundaries. During his stay, he added 41 crucial runs for the ninth wicket along with skipper Ben Stokes. Right before this ball, India wasted a review on LBW appeal against Wood.
India restricted England for 246 runs in the first innings. Captain Ben Stokes played a brilliant 70-run knock off 88 balls. Stokes took England’s score to a modest total of 246 from a situation where they were struggling at 155 for 7. Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja picked up 3 wickets each while Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel also contributed with 2 wickets each.
