Ravi Ashwin became second Indian bowler and overall ninth bowler to pick up 500 test wickets.

Ace Indian off-spinner Ravi Ashwin had a special day on Friday as he climbed the mount 500 after dismissing English opener Zac Crawley. Ashwin was just one wicket away from completing this special milestone. Rajkot will always be a special venue for Ravi Ashwin now as his 500th test scalp came at the Niranjan Shah Cricket Stadium.

Ravi Ashwin has become second Indian bowler to complete 500 test wickets after Anil Kumble. He also became second quickest overall to reach this milestone in test cricket. Ashwin took only 98 test matches to complete 500 wickets. Only Muralitharan (87) is quicker than Ashwin to achieve this feat. After completing 500 wickets in tests, Ashwin dedicated special test wicket to his father. According to Ravi Ashwin, his father played pivotal role in shaping up his cricket career since childhood.

Veteran Indian off-spinner was a little emotional while interacting with commentators after the day’s play. Ashwin said, “It’s been quite a long journey. Firstly I’d like to dedicate this feat to my father. He’s been with me through thick and thin, probably had a heart-attack every time he’s watched me play. His health has probably gone for a toss because of that.”

Ravi Ashwin also heaped a huge praise on England’s counter-attacking style of play, which is also called ‘Bazball.’ Ashwin added that England’s approach has made India think a lot on day 2. Ashwin added, “England are showing a lot of intent, playing like they would in an ODI or T20 game. Given us a lot to think about, we have to keep doing what we’re doing and hope that one goes to hand.”

Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin believes that the game is in balance. Ashwin said, “We need to exercise discipline, England have been in such positions before. I think the game is in the balance, they’re putting us under pressure but it’s important we stay composed.” At stumps on day 2 of the ongoing test, England are 207/2 and trailing by 238 runs. Ben Duckett top-scored for the visitors with 133*.
