Ravi Ashwin took 11 wickets and scored a century in the IND vs BAN test series.

Senior India off-spinner Ravi Ashwin has added another feather to his cap after bagging the Man of the Series award in the recently-concluded IND vs BAN two-match test series.

With wins in Chennai and Kanpur, Rohit Sharma’s team white-washed Bangladesh 2-0. India continue their dominance at home; they have not lost a single home test series since 2013. They will next host New Zealand for three tests before flying to Australia for a five-match test series.

Against Bangladesh in Chennai, local boy Ashwin starred with both bat and ball. He scored a century in India’s first innings and took a six-wicket haul in Bangladesh’s second innings to ride the hosts to a 280-run victory.

In Kanpur, the Indian batters shattered the record for the fastest team 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 after more than two days were lost to rain and wet outfield. India recorded a seven-wicket win in Kanpur, during which Ashwin took five wickets in the match.

Ravi Ashwin bags his 11th Man of the Series award

For being the joint-highest wicket-taker in the series – Ashwin and Bumrah both finished with 11 scalps, though Bumrah’s average of 12.81 is much better than Ashwin’s 19.27 – and for a crucial century in Chennai, Ashwin was named the Man of the Series.

This was the 11th time in his test career that the Tamil Nadu cricketer won this prestigious award. With this, he has equalled Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan’s record of most MoTS awards in test cricket. But while Muralitharan had 11 MoTS awards in 61 series, Ashwin achieved this in 43 series.

Most Man of the Series awards in test cricket:

11 – Ravi Ashwin (43 series)*

11 – Muralitharan (61 series)

9 – Jacques Kallis (61 series)

After winning the MoTS award, Ashwin said, “Winning this game was important for us. Massive win for us in the context of the WTC.”
