Why is Ravi Ashwin indebted to MS Dhoni for rest of his life? Off-spinner reveals

Ravi Ashwin started his Indian Premier League (IPL) career with Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Ace Indian off-spinner Ravi Ashwin rose to fame when Chennai Super Kings (CSK) unleashed him in the Indian Premier League (IPL) during 2009. Starting from an unknown entity to now only the second Indian cricketer with 500 test wickets for India, Ashwin had a tremendous journey in his career. Ashwin is currently part of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) camp in the IPL.
Ravichandran Ashwin believes that he is indebted to MS Dhoni for giving him an opportunity. Ashwin was part of Chennai Super Kings and rubbed shoulders with foreign stars and legendary names like Muttiah Muralitharan, Mathew Hayden, Makhaya Ntini, and Andrew Flintoff in CSK camp. Ashwin is grateful for the opportunities he got from CSK skipper Dhoni.
Ashwin felicitated by TNCA
Ravi Ashwin, who recently completed 500 test wickets for India, was felicitated for achieving the landmark by Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA). Ashwin completed 500 test wickets for India in the recently concluded test series against England and he also became 16th Indian cricketer to play 100 or more test matches during the series. Ashwin ended up as the highest wicket-taker of the series with 26 scalps to his name.
While speaking at the event, Ashwin lauded CSK captain Dhoni for giving him opportunities. Ashwin said, “I am indebted to Dhoni for the rest of my life for what he gave me. He gave me an opportunity with the new ball to go head on with Chris Gayle and 17 years later Anil bhai would be talking about the same episode.” CSK captain Dhoni was extremely confident of using Ashwin against Chris Gayle when he was batting at his peak and scoring runs freely.
Ravi Ashwin also revealed that he had a bit of doubt over his chances when he saw Muralitharan in the same team. Ashwin added, “In 2008, I met all the greats (in CSK dressing room) Mathew Hayden and MS Dhoni. I sat through (IPL) 2008. I was a nobody then, where am I to play in a team that had Muttiah Muralitharan,” CSK will played the curtain raiser of the IPL 2024 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
