Ravi Ashwin retired from international cricket after the third BGT 2024-25 test.

Former India off-spinner Ravi Ashwin has made an interesting revelation about the phone calls he received from a couple of legendary Indian cricketers following his retirement.

On December 18, 2024, Ashwin bid adieu to international cricket, announcing his retirement at the conclusion of the Gabba test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 test.

Ashwin had featured in one of the three tests so far in the series – in the second test in Adelaide – and was overlooked for Washington Sundar in Perth and Ravindra Jadeja in Brisbane.

Captain Rohit Sharma revealed that Ashwin had told him of retirement after the Perth test, but he convinced him to play in Adelaide. India have lost the last four tests Ashwin’s been involved in – he averaged 41 with the ball during the 0-3 home whitewash against New Zealand.

Two former Indian cricketers called Ravi Ashwin after his retirement

On Friday, Ashwin posted a screenshot of his recent call history from Thursday. Apart from his father, Ashwin had received calls from the great Sachin Tendulkar and Kapil Dev.

Ashwin made a tweet, expressing his elation at getting calls from two of the world’s greatest-ever players.

“If some one told me 25 years ago that I would have a smart phone with me and the call log on the last day of my career as an Indian cricketer would look like this☺️☺️, I would have had a heart attack then only. Thanks @sachin_rt and @therealkapildev paaji🙏🙏 #blessed,” Ashwin tweeted.

Ashwin retired with 537 test wickets, the second-most for India behind Anil Kumble, in 106 tests at an average of 24. He snared 37 five-fors in his test career, the joint second-most in the world. He took 765 wickets across formats, also the second-most for India.

Ravi Ashwin is set to appear in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 for Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
